K9 Academy tailor each dog for each client. Our speciality is providing clients with bespoke personal training services which exactly meet their dogs needs. We carefully tailor our training to what our clients need, while ensuring that it meets the spectrum of demand for personal & family protection dogs. We are proud to develop close working relationships with our clients, allowing us to work together, and provide the perfect trained family protection dog of any working breed. A family protection dog is far from the stereotypical guard dog. They are trained to protect their handler and family on command, and within specific threat scenarios. While it must be able to immediately transform from a companion to guardian, it also has to be able to revert to its previous state just as quickly, again on command. Its obedience levels must be immediate, and the dog should be happy to follow commands without aversion or question. We work with the new owners to perfect their dogs’ obedience, as we believe this not only aids a stress free relationship, but also builds a strong bond with the dog. This bond is vitally important in the line of protection work.

Why CHOOSE a protection dog?

A properly trained/ breed protection dog is firstly a companion and then a protector/ guardian, both for the individual and the family. Properly trained these dogs respond firstly on command and also in specific threat scenarios - Only a few trainers can also train the “Off” switch effectively. We offer a comprehensive handover package, which makes the transfer of ownership easy for the new owner and dog. Our aim is to develop an effective team, capable of performing in all situations. Our dogs are adaptable because of our training system and selection process. We have 20 years of experience raising and training sports dogs, who for safety reasons are trained to “target” equipment. Our protection dogs are not trained this way, but on a completely different “Real Life” scenario based system. We have many years varied experience with several breeds, Acquiring several top level qualifications and achievements along the way.

A comprehensive hand over period is undertaken with the new owners to make the transition effortless and create a functional team. All dogs are assessed for stability of nerve, suitability, adaptability and offer real life protection (C/T training).
